'Hi-Fiction Science' is the self-titled debut album from the Bristol based quintet distilling a blend of Psych-folk, art-rock and kraut influences.
The album was released April 2011 on the band’s own Negative Drive imprint and was recorded with Ali Chant at Bristol’s Toybox Studios (PJ Harvey / John Parish).
The 9 track CD includes the full length cut of ‘Fleance’ (Third Ear Band) originally released by Fruits de Mer records on their 2010 Annual.
More recently Hi-Fiction Science have contributed their take of ‘Private Sorrow’ for the Fruits de Mer Pretty Things tribute ‘Sorrow’s Children’ (also available through Heyday).
Reviews
‘Hi-Fiction Science - the debut offering of a Bristolian quintet who merge shoegaze and art rock to make an album of engaging cuts. The band recall something Mancunian, something krauty, some thing retro...’ (Terrascope)
A beautiful vocal performance, by Maria Charles, lifts ‘Fleance’ into the realms of future folk-rock rarity’ (Terrascope)
‘Hi Fiction Science have a real flair for writing accessible songs that could almost be called pop. But the music propels the songs into the stratosphere, giving it a deep space quality, and with a focus on shifting of thematic gears that keeps things interesting throughout’. (Aural Innovations)
‘a very fine and diverse effort’. (Jeanette Leech, Shindig!)
‘a very accomplished debut – intelligently written and well-executed’ (Penny Black Music)
